Residue

A photographic series about escapism, transformation and what we carry with us after difficult experiences.

The series uses close up portraits, make up, dramatic lighting and angel wings to create an otherworldly feeling within a cold environment. I wanted the softness and beauty of the styling to contrast with the harshness of the surroundings.

The title Residue refers to what is left behind after difficult experiences. Rather than focusing on the negative, I was interested in making something beautiful from what remains. The black and white images add to the feeling of being removed from reality, while the concrete keeps the work grounded in a real environment.
